HAYEK OFFICE POTTS POINT
This real estate office is situated in a transparent space located on the ground floor of a 1970s apartment building in Sydney’s Potts Point. The site has a large street frontage and, being elevated on a sandstone escarpment, has wonderful views looking out over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and the city skyline.
The concept was to create a beautiful shopfront with a commanding street presence to be utilised for a dual purpose. It was also to usher in a new corporate image for an independent real estate agent and to complement the existing entrance into a 1970s apartment building.
The reception area was created by enclosing an existing outdoor space. The space was articulated through the use of concrete columns and highlighted by the existing feature zig-zag shaped awning, facing the street. This newly created area was designed to be a feature with both the reception and meeting room partition wall behind being constructed of sand-blasted glass. This was set between white powder-coated steel frames giving the impression of a precious jewel-like element within the space being the first thing that is seen.
The central space is used for the sales staff, who are housed within a custom-made workstation unit with the other management and accounts spaces behind.
Existing details of the building such as the zigzag awnings are continued into the space as ceiling elements. The central workstations were designed with low partition heights and the rear offices constructed of frameless glass to maintain the transparency of the space, allowing the public to view the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House from the shopfront or street frontage.
